Derker
The Housing Market Renewal (HMR) Pathfinder has some very exciting plans for the future of the area.
Derker contains a lot of terraced housing, much of it over 100 years old and not suited to modern needs. The Pathfinder is investing money to create a better mix of housing, including attractive, modern homes for families. The Stoneleigh development gives a taste of the high quality design of homes planned for the area.
To date more than £29 million has been invested in the neighbourhood. Work has included refurbishing the outside of 164 existing homes, and over a hundred more will be improved in 2008. We are demolishing some property to make way for new housing and providing support and financial compensation to those residents affected. We have also introduced projects to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, clean up the streets and involve young people in improving where they live.
Local people have played a big part in shaping plans, by taking part in consultation events, and giving their views on new housing developments. The local neighbourhood office is open, staffed by trained Community Housing Officers. The six-strong team provide information and support to residents whose homes are earmarked for demolition as part of plans to provide a better choice of housing in the area.
£5.8 million of HMR funding, plus other public and private sector funding will be invested in Derker this year.
