Brian Stallard outlines proposals to Karen Wood and Steve Coulson

Alt and Sholver

Residents in Alt and Sholver have been working with local organisations to come up with ideas to improve their neighbourhoods.

They are part of the Alt and Sholver Partnership – along with Oldham Council, First Choice Homes Oldham and the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder.  The partnership has been set up to secure investment – including Housing Market Renewal Funding - to improve areas of Alt and Sholver in Oldham.

Already, residents from Alt Tenant and Residents’ Association, the ARC Community Centre and Sholver Tenant Management Organisation have been involved in appointing specialist neighbourhood planners Deloitte MCS. This was done in June 2006 and is part of the ongoing project to create a blueprint to attract major funding which will improve local people’s quality of life.

The first consultation events took place in July 2006 when residents dropped in at St Thomas’ School in Sholver and Alt Primary School to give their views on what they thought could change for the better.

It is not too late to make a difference for residents who have not yet been involved.  Neighbourhood plans (below) were distributed to residents on Alt in September and Sholver at the end of October 2007. The Alt and Sholver Partnership want to hear the views of more local people.

It is likely to be some time before any funding is made available for either area. However, to improve the prospects for a range of different funding, the Partnership needs to develop clear plans that local people have contributed to and support.
