29-year-old Agneiszka Lysak is determined to make it to the top in her chosen profession. With the support of the Oldham and Rochdale labour into construction initiative J21, she is well on her way to achieving this.

Agneiszka is currently working as a Document Controller at Oldham’s flagship Integrated Care Centre. In the longer term she is training to become a Site Manager.

Having completed two Masters degrees at the University of Salford, Agneiszka was referred to J21 in June 2006. At the time Agneiszka was working as an Assistant Manger at McDonalds to fund her studies.

Robert Lynch, J21 Workforce Support Officer found a place for Agneiszka on the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, which enabled her to work on major construction sites.

With the help of J21 Job Broker Bob Barber, Agneiszka has been job matched with construction company Carillion, who are building the Integrated Care Centre currently under construction close to Oldham Civic Centre.

J21 also provided funding for Agneiszka to study part-time for a HNC in Construction at University Centre Oldham.

Agnieska explained, “I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and train as an engineer. The construction industry for me is exciting, you never stop learning, discovering and experimenting. I enjoy being part of the creation process and seeing a project develop from inception to completion. You can be proud of yourself.”

“The J21 team and wonderful people like Robert Lynch and Bob Barber made my dream come true. J21 helped me get my job with Carillion as well as funding my course.”

I love what I do because I can develop my knowledge and learn from professionals who are supporting me along the way.”

Frank McCall, Project Manager with Carillion added, “Since joining Carillion Agnieska has settled in well and become one of the site team, asking many questions and cramming as much new learning as possible into each day.”

Agnieska is also becoming more involved in the design process working closely with the design co-ordinator and attending design meetings. We have no doubt that Agnieska will realise her ambitions and follow in her father’s footsteps.”

Over the past year J21 has secured employment for over 100 Oldham and Rochdale residents and placed a further 200 people on training courses.

J21 is partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund and would like to hear from any Oldham and Rochdale resident aged over 18 who is seeking long-term employment in construction. Please contact Martin Ryle on 01706 646471.
