Property Xchange launched to help HMR residents
22nd November 2006

A new scheme is being launched that will help people in Derker and Werneth affected by Housing Market Renewal demolition proposals. The Council has bought several properties across the borough which will be offered for sale to home owners and tenants.
Initially, eight houses in Derker, Chadderton, Failsworth, Higginshaw and Hathershaw will be offered for sale at market value. These properties will be made available to residents living in the proposed clearance areas, with priority being given to those in the first phase. Click here for more information on the properties. The scheme has been introduced in response to requests from residents.
Following minor repair work, the properties are valued by the district valuer before being offered for sale at market value. Every new owner of an Xchange property will receive an owners’ pack containing:
- Independent survey report undertaken by the Valuation Office Agency Surveying Department
- Electrical Certificate (NIC EIC)
- Gas Certificate (CORGI Registered)
- Timber and damp report/certificate.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Regeneration and HMR Board Member, said: “I am pleased to launch the Property Xchange scheme as I’m confident that it will help people affected by the regeneration plans who have not yet found a new home. We are committed to working with residents to come up with solutions that make the process of revitalising Oldham communities easier. The homes are in a number of locations and are being offered at a range of prices. I would urge interested residents to contact their neighbourhood offices for details of the houses.”
Residents can also take advantage of the Home Plus Plan which allows them to access additional funding to help them buy a new home. They do not have to pay anything back until they sell the home in the future.
To find out more about Property Xchange residents should contact the Derker Neighbourhood team on 0161 652 8873 or drop into the office on Flint Street or the Werneth/Freehold team on 0161 911 4246 or visit the team at 80 Tamworth Street.
