Langley residents get the skills to succeed

23rd October 2006

A series of special workshops are launching to help Langley residents get more involved in the regeneration of their community.

The workshops, running to January 2007, are being jointly organised by the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal (HMR) Pathfinder Programme and West Pennine Housing Association, part of the Regenda Group.

Taking place at venues across the area, the workshops will give local people the specialist skills they need to contribute to the on-going improvement of Langley, especially when it comes to better homes and neighbourhoods.

Workshop sessions will include how to write a successful funding application; tips for holding effective meetings; confidence building and public speaking skills, and advice on engaging the wider community.

Steve Bloomer, Langley HMR Neighbourhood Programme Manager explained: “Major improvements have been taking place in Langley over the past few years. Investment from the HMR Pathfinder and other sources is helping the area become safer, more successful and more popular.

“It is important that local people continue to play a big part in this regeneration. These workshops will give residents the specialist skills they need to get involved, and help make a lasting difference to their communities.”

The training is being funded by the Housing Corporation and the European Regional Development Fund.

Andrew Bradwell, Neighbourhood Renewal Manager at West Pennine Housing Association added: “The majority of the workshops are suitable for anybody, from experienced volunteers and members of community groups to those who are completely new to voluntary or community work. People will come away with practical skills that can benefit their area, and help their own personal development too.”
