Local come out to show they 'Love Sholver'
1 October 2009
A free festival celebrating all the talents in the local community in Sholver took place at the end of September.
The second Love Sholver festival was an opportunity for local groups and individuals to show off their skills and interests, and bring them together with visitors to find out more about what’s on offer on their doorstep. It all took place on Sholver Village Green and around Sholver Youth Centre on Sholver Lane.
Heather Woodall from the Sholver Steering Group said, "I think this event is so good for the area. I have lived and worked with the community on Sholver for a while and this project has opened my eyes to the varied opportunities available on Sholver for all ages.
“I thought I knew a lot about the area but Love Sholver has shown me there is so much more going on that needs to be celebrated. This festival was a fantastic way to show the people on Sholver what is out there and what can be achieved but also show Oldham what our community is about. "
Zerg Raja, Customer Involvement Officer added, “Love Sholver was a great success last year and we’re expecting an even better day this year. There is a huge amount of talent in the neighbourhood. Love Sholver gives everyone a chance to celebrate everything that is best about the local area, to learn new talents and make new friends.”
Local groups came together to organise the day with support from Housing Market Renewal and Oldham Borough Council.
