Housing Market Renewal is about more than just bricks and mortar. Our partners are working to deliver improvements to the local economy, public transport, health facilities, community policing and the general environment. We want residents to be able to get employment near where they live and that’s why we’ve established the Oldham and Rochdale Economic and Skills Alliance (ORESA) and J21.
ORESA’s vision is that by 2020 Oldham and Rochdale will be thriving and ‘playing a new and dynamic role in the world-class Manchester City Region.’ To achieve this, ORESA is working to raise skill levels, tackle deprivation and re-structure the economy as manufacturing continues to decline. J21, also set up through Housing Market Renewal, has so far secured training and work in the construction industry for more than 800 residents across both boroughs.
The work of ORESA and J21 is more important than ever in the current economic climate and we are committed to working with them to make sure that people who want to work as well as live in Oldham and Rochdale, can.
